Introduction to TechTok

Introduction

We begin this blog by asking a simple question, what is technology. If we pose this question to you, our readers, we are sure you would know what it is but wait, question yourself again. Do you really know what it is? According to Webster's definition of technology- technology is the practical application of knowledge in any field and the capability that is produced through this application. We have a different answer to give you. Technology, in our humble opinion is a process, a journey of a hundred miles that began when our ancestors stepped out of their little caves and created fire.

In this world, in the world that we know, technology has become irreplaceable with our existence. We are defined by the car that we drive, the computer that we own and the company that we work and all of these are some by-products of the technological revolutions we have faced or are currently undergoing. It motors past us but we rarely stop to look and think, as the great inventors of old did, about how it impacts our lives and changes our very fabric of reality.

So, with that approach in mind, we, two college students from a small campus in Bangalore, India introduce to you TechTok a blog where we will be regularly posting interesting updates in computer technology and our opinions on the impact and future of them. We also will be keeping our readers up to date with the latest publications, research and exciting revelations that are made in this field. We restrict ourselves to computer based knowledge as we know nothing else, but are open to any comments and suggestions for diversifying our knowledge base.

TechTok aims to bridge the gap between simply using a piece of technology for your benefit and understanding what the thought processes behind creating the technology, implementing it and launching it might have been. We know, that the key to excellence in any field is only by standing on the shoulders of giants that have come before us and with that in mind we thought that it would be interesting if our readers could communicate with us through the comment section. We would love this to be an active space for discussion and ideation.

To conclude a far too lengthy exposition on what, who and why we are I leave you with a quote by Alan Kay a world renowned computer scientist, that perhaps you can think of when your riding alone in the bus or in horribly boring lecture - "The best way to predict the future is to invent it"
